About Us
The State Philharmonic of Targu Mures was founded in 1950 by a decree of the Romanian Government, with the decisive contribution of Zeno Vancea and Kozma Geza. The institution is housed in the Palace of Culture, built between 1911-1913, a true emblem of Mures architecture. With three professional ensembles — the Symphony Orchestra, Mixed Chorus, and "Tiberius" Quartet — the philharmonic offers weekly symphonic concerts, four annual festivals, and educational concerts.
What Defines Us
Palace of Culture
Our home, the Palace of Culture in Targu Mures (built 1911-1913), a true emblem of Mures architecture. The Great Hall seats 700 and houses one of Romania's most renowned organs.
Three Ensembles
The Symphony Orchestra, Mixed Chorus (since 1956), and Tiberius String Quartet (since 2008) form the three professional ensembles of the institution.
Small Hall
With over 200 seats, the Small Hall hosts chamber concerts, recitals, and cultural events in an intimate and refined atmosphere.
Four Annual Festivals
Four major annual festivals, weekly Thursday symphonic concerts at 19:00, and educational concerts for youth define our season.
A Legendary Stage
The Great Hall of the Palace of Culture has 700 seats and houses one of Romania's most renowned organs. The Art Nouveau interior with stained glass and majolica ornaments creates a unique atmosphere for every concert.
Built between 1911-1913 after the plans of architects Komor Marcell and Jakab Dezso, the hall has been carefully restored to preserve its original beauty while providing modern facilities for artists and audiences.

Founding of the Philharmonic
The State Philharmonic of Targu Mures was founded by a decree of the Romanian Government, with contributions from Zeno Vancea and Kozma Geza.
Founding of the Mixed Chorus
The Mixed Chorus of the Philharmonic was founded, initially within the State Ensemble of Songs and Dances, completing the institution's ensembles.
Shinya Ozaki - Permanent Conductor
Japanese conductor Shinya Ozaki becomes permanent conductor of the orchestra, marking the beginning of an exceptional artistic collaboration.
"Tiberius" Quartet
The "Tiberius" String Quartet becomes the state quartet within the Philharmonic, the third professional ensemble of the institution.
